School History

   Our school was founded in April, 1940 and was named “Vocational School of Hualien Harbor”. During the World War II, our academic system was turned into four years.  At that time, there were three vocational schools in Taiwan, “Taipei Industrial Vocational School”, “Hualien Industrial Vocational School” and “Taichung Industrial Vocational School”.

Educational Goals

1. To create an educational environment of the true, the good and the beautiful: we hope to cultivate our students to own rational and positive attitude, to make good use of methods to overcome difficulties, to adjust behaviors properly and to be altruistic.

2. To center on students’ ability of practice and innovation as well as capacity of original decision in order to face the global competition and contribute to the hometown.

 

School Introdcution

    We have 9 departments: Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Drafting, Auto Mechanics, Computer Science, Electronic Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, and Architecture.  There are 14 classes in each grade and one class each year for the departments of Auto Mechanics and Architecture in round order for the night department.  There are totally 45 classes and 1,100 students roughly.

 

School Facility

1. Administrative Section: offices,a library, a consulting room, computer classrooms, meeting rooms and self-directed learning rooms.

2. Department Buildings: computer rooms, vocational factories, and labs.

3. Classrooms: general classrooms, special-education classrooms, a music classroom, an art classroom, and a group-learning classroom.

4. An Activity Center: a gym and a retraining room.

5. Dorms for teachers and students.

6. A swimming pool.

7. Technology Teaching Building: technology teaching center, mechatronics and drafting factories, and industrial-academic skills extension center.

 

School Curriculum

1. Industrial Vocational Education

    For junior high school graduates; high school diploma granted after the courses.

2. Industrial Vocational Education at night school

    For junior high school graduates; high school diploma granted after the night courses.

3. Workshops at East Dist. Technology Teaching Center

    For the students and teachers of the vocational high schools in Hualien, Ilan and Taitung to learn the knowledge and skills of modern technology from various workshops.

4. Vocational Certificate Verification

    Provide qualified spaces for national verifications of vocational certificates.  Students will be granted primary and advanced certificates after passing the test.

 

Multiple Curriculums

1. Cross-disciplinary courses:

   Various inter-department intergrated courses are designed for students to learn multiple knowledge and co-operation.

2. Courses based on local cultures:

   Off-campus activities are held for students to know more about the Hualien writers, aboriginal languages, martial facilities and humane landscape and history.

3. Community activities involved:

   Students are trained to attend the Pacific Poetry Festival, to visit the naval vessel, to express concern for the elderly in the nursing home and so on.

4. University Preparation Programs:

   University professors are invited to deliver related courses, such as National Taiwan University of Science and Technology, Asia Eastern University of Science and Technology and so on.

5. Inter-school distance learning:  

   We provide distance courses for other high school students and junior high school students in remote areas.

6. Advanced course:

   We provide various elective courses for students to help broaden the students’ learning, such as courses on languages, mathematics, and other vocational subjects after school and during summer or winter vacations.

7. Attitude toward public service:

   We encourage students to serve as volunteers in administrative offices to cultivate their spirits of public service.

8. Development of artistic skills:

   Students are enthusiastic about participating various clubs, such as aboriginal dancing, dragon boat sailing, sports school teams, chorus and so on.  There are various inter-class and inter-school sports competitions every year.

9. Professional skills:

   Students are encouraged to take the tests of verifications of vocational certificates.  We hold the competitions about the essays and independent projects.

10. Various school club activities:

   We have more than 40 school clubs classified into academics, physics, technology, art, public service and so on.  We also encourage students to attend the community clubs.

   We hope to educate our students to improve the society with their knowledge and skills.

   With the help of the universities of technology, we provide the environment for students to make connection with what they learn now and where they might work in the future.

   We empower the students with the global perspective and teach them to pay respect toward different cultures.

 

School Achievements

1. The principal was honored the award of high school education by the former President Ma.

2. East Dist. Technology Teaching Center at our school was awarded the first-grade prize in 2020 by Education Administration, MOE.

3. We have attained recognition in various competitive grants of MOE, such as Self-regulated Learning Aided with Technology, Cross-disciplinary Art Education, Education Practive, Environmental Protection, National Defence, Volunteer Service, Health Promotion, Tobacco Hazards Prevention, and Students Drug Abuse Prevention and so on.

4. Many of our teachers have been awarded as National Excellent Teacher, Friendly Campus Ambassador, and Outstanding Youth.

5. Over 90 percent of students have gained the basic level of vocational certificates and over 67 percent of students have gained the advanced level in 2021.  Students have earned various awards in national vocational training competitions.

6. Our students have gained excellent performances in various activities, such as music competitions, dancing competitions, and sports games.  Over 90 percent of graduates go to university for higher education or get employed and almost 30 percent of them go into the national universities.

7. The student, Xie, Chen-An, has won Taishin Spirit of Community Award and received by the President Tsai.
